Pop Artifact 49x63

49” x 63” x 1”

Saved textiles/linen/silk, cotton, wool yarn

This textile artwork reimagines the Campbell’s soup can as a softened, fragmented relic of modern life. Constructed from layered fabric remnants, hand stitching, and richly varied textures, the piece transforms an instantly recognizable symbol of mass production into something intimate, tactile, and deeply human.

At the center, the red-and-white composition evokes the iconic soup can label, but it is partially obscured, abstracted, and imperfectly assembled. Rather than the clean repetition associated with Pop Art, the image is surrounded by irregular patchwork borders, curved seams, and visible handwork that emphasize labor, memory, and repair. The stitched surface slows down the mechanical language of consumer culture and replaces it with evidence of touch, time, and care.

The surrounding neutral fabrics create a quiet architectural space around the vivid red core, allowing the “can” to function almost like an altar, window, or relic. Textural contrasts—velvet, patterned scraps, embroidered motifs, and heavily quilted areas—suggest accumulation and lived experience, turning disposable imagery into an heirloom object.

By translating a symbol of modernity and consumption into cloth and hand stitching, the work creates a tension between industrial culture and domestic craft, repetition and individuality. It feels both contemporary and archaeological, as though the icon of consumerism has been recovered, preserved, and emotionally reinterpreted through fabric.

This is a one of a kind hand made piece and returns are not accepted. As in all of her pieces there is only one Pop Artifact and the art cannot and will not be reproduced. This piece is signed by the artists stitched signature on the front right bottom corner in sunshine crimson red, signed on the reverse in permanent ink. The reverse includes a hanging sleeve handsewn to accommodate the wood slat included.

The art will arrive wrapped in plastic for protection, shipped rolled including a strong wooden slat for easy hanging.
